Green Peafowl Reintroduction Program By Taman Mini Indonesia Indah

In commemorating of Hari Cinta Puspa dan Satwa Nasional (HCPSN) in 2019, Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam (BKSDA) Jakarta along with Balai Taman Nasional Ujung Kulon and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) did a reintroduction program for 6 green peafowls (Pavo muticus), consisting of 2 males and 4 females.

Reintroduction was carried out in Handeleum Island which is a part of Ujung Kulon National Park in Banten Province.

Ministry of Environment and Forestry cq. Directorate of Biodiversity Conservation, Directorate General of Nature Resources and Ecosystem has a priority in-situ conservation program, which one of activity by increasing population of protected and threatened Indonesian species in the wild through reintroduction program. 

This is the responsibility of BKSDA Jakarta so they invite all institutions to involve in that conservation effort. Taman Mini Indonesia Indah as one of the legal and authorized zoo in Indonesia, under supervision of BKSDA Jakarta is keen to support the activity as their responsibility in wildlife conservation that has been succeed in green peafowl breeding.
